The Problem With Initiatives Attempting To Defund Planned Parenthood

More often than not, people mistake Planned Parenthood’s purpose. Many Americans believe they are solely an abortion center or that they are providing children with tools to have premarital sex. Aside from providing sexual and reproductive health care, Planned Parenthood provide general health care such as vaccinations and cancer screenings. I, and many of my friends, have counted on Planned Parenthood to provide services that allow me to be safe and that I’m healthy. Planned Parenthood has become more than a sexual health care service.

Politicians are attempting to shut down Planned Parenthood by removing the possibility for people with Title X or Medicaid to use their services. In the attempt to shut down Planned Parenthood, they are trying to pass the legislation of “Defunding” Planned Parenthood which is technically only announcing they would prevent funding to Planned Parenthood rather than shutting it down altogether. However, because many of the people who use Planned Parenthood's services are covered by Title X or Medicaid, there will be much less people using their services. this will make it difficult for Planned Parenthood to keep their doors opened.

The beauty of Planned Parenthood is that it provides services to people who are low income, and even those who don't have insurance. According to Planned Parenthood, they provide services to 2.4 million people in a year alone. So if Planned Parenthood were to be “defunded” those people who come from low income households who depend on their services will be forced to find another location that accepts their insurance or pay out of pocket.

Planned Parenthood does provide safe and legal abortion services. If they don’t provide these services to women with Medicaid or Title X then the only choices these women will have would be to pay an outrageous fee or go somewhere to get it illegally and done quickly. This will come at the expense of their life.

How you can help:

Educate Yourself On The Purpose Of Planned Parenthood

There has been so much confusion with Planned Parenthood’s purpose that people tend to make their own assumptions on what they really do and the services they provide. Visit, learn about all they have to offer, and see if they could potentially benefit you.

Educate Others On Planned Parenthood’s Purpose

While there are tons of people who don’t know all Planned Parenthood offers, educating yourself and others could potentially benefit them. If they don't need anything from them, they could advocate for Planned Parenthood and suggest it to someone who may need it!

On you can submit your information to let our government know you stand with Planned Parenthood. Help support keep Planned Parenthood's doors open for those who depend on their services!
