'Thank u, Next'

By Jacquelyn Cornier

During heartbreak, we are filled with mixed emotions and are hyper focused on negative thoughts. We replay the “what if” scenarios in our heads on repeat. Pop star, Ariana Grande has another perspective and way of coping. “Thank you, next” has become a hit song with over 29 million streams in one week.

We can’t stop replaying the song either.

'Thought I’d end up with Sean

But he wasn’t a match

Wrote some songs about Ricky

Now I listen and laugh

Even almost got married

And for Pete, I’m so thankful

Wish I could say, “Thank you” to Malcolm

’Cause he was an angel'

Most songs about heartbreak make us bawl our eyes out and text our bffs about how we hate our ex but not this song. Instead, Grande used appreciation to set the tone of “Thank you, next” by thanking her ex’s for all that they’ve taught her. Love, patience and pain. Whether we like it or not, our exes have taught us all lessons and it’s up to us to embrace it. Grande does just that. 'I've loved and I've lost

But that's not what I see

So, look what I got

Look what you taught me'

So, before we speak negatively about the people we shared time with, think about the lessons learned. Take these lessons and apply them. This grows character.

After getting through the rough patches of crying, checking your ex’s Instagram and dwelling on lost time, it’s time to have fun with friends. Although Grande and Pete Davidson recently called off their engagement, Grande has expressed that she has no worries, thanks to her friends. What a cure!

Spend more time with my friends

I ain't worried 'bout nothin'

Plus, I met someone else

We havin' better discussions

I know they say I move on too fast

I know they say I move on too fast

But this one gon' last

It’s hard when your most recent lover moves on. Grande’s clever second verse left us on a cliff hanger. We’re left under the impression that she chooses someone new but this time she chose herself. 'Cause her name is Ari

And I'm so good with that (So good with that)

She taught me love (Love)

She taught me patience (Patience)

How she handles pain (Pain)

That shit's amazing (Yeah, she's amazing) After all Grande has been through she still remains positive and hopeful that the things that didn’t work out, will one day. This is a perspective we can all speak to and admire.

One day I'll walk down the aisle

Holding hands with my mama

I'll be thanking my dad

Cause she grew from the drama

Only wanna do it once, real bad

Gon' make that shit last Grande took the high road when speaking about her four exes but her break ups aren’t the only thing that has changed her life recently. She had to endure losing fans from a terrorist attack and losing Mac Miller from an overdose. It’s safe to say her resilience is the reason why she’s speaking out despite the good and the bad. God forbid something happens Least this song is a smash (Song is a smash)
