On Sunday March 31st, we were informed, with heavy hearts, that musician and businessman, Nipsey Hussle, was killed outside of his store in Crenshaw, Los Angeles. Nipsey Hussle was a man who wore many hats, and whose passion and spirit could be felt in everything he poured himself into. Above all, he always looked for ways to cultivate and spread knowledge to uplift his community and to inspire others. Nipsey Hussle was taken from us at the young age of 33. This loss is hard to fathom, and we send our utmost condolences, love, and support to Lauren London and all of his loved ones.
In his honor, we are shedding light on some of the incredible initiatives and words of wisdom that Nipsey Hussle left as his legacy. We encourage you to take what you can from these gems so that we can uplift each other and remember him for the dedicated and inspiring man he was.
Nipsey Hussle was working on a Documentary about Dr. Sebi.
Many speculate that spreading knowledge on this topic had something to do with his untimely death. However, this is not in any way confirmed and is merely a speculation at this point. Nipsey Hussle became interested in Dr. Sebi when introduced to his practices by his partner, Lauren London. Dr. Sebi was a holistic healer that helped many people improve their health and helped many patients to resolve cases of disease - from AIDS to Cancer to Herpes. Yet, he was charged in a Supreme Court case for making fraudulent medical claims. However, after providing many witnesses, he was let go and proven Not Guilty. Nipsey Hussle wanted to shed light on this topic and encourage people to think deeper into taking control of their own health and to not blindly accept what we are told.
“Whoever you surround yourself with, you will have that energy around you. If you are around people that are high energy, that is motivation for you to stay on top of your game. This applies to relationships, friendships, everything.” - Nipsey Hussle
Nipsey Hussle was a deeply self-aware person, and he was generous and genuine in his intentions to spread his wisdom. He reminded us to be very careful and selective in who we surround ourselves with. He encouraged us to hold ourselves and those around us to high standards. If we surround ourselves with people who are doing amazing things and who are on their grind, Nipsey Hussle emphasized we will be more motivated to stay up there as well – and less prone to falling off without a care.
He started the STEM Initiative “Too Big To Fail” to serve as a link between brilliant children in inner cities and incredible opportunities.
What stands out to me the most about Nipsey Hussle is his dedication to uplift by any means necessary. Together with real estate developer Dave Gross, he was planning a STEM initiative called “Too Big To Fail” to help develop “a resource network across the country” for students from inner cities. Too Big To Fail was intended to provide opportunities (mentorship, new skills, and inspiration for professional growth) in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to kids with potential. The goal was to start this initiative in Crenshaw in Los Angeles and expand it to cities across the country in order to serve as “a bridge between Silicon Valley and the inner city.”
He created the concept of a smart store in Crenshaw, called Marathon.
Nipsey Hussle was passionate about creating a smart store which integrated an app, merchandise, and exclusive music content. He was incredibly innovative in thinking about ways to be attractive for consumers while staying up to date with the digital age. His innovation will not become obsolete like traditional brick-and-mortar stores can, and currently are. Nipsey Hussle was always one step ahead and so open about the strategies that he used to accumulate wealth. He didn’t keep his winning keys to himself as secrets; he wanted to spread this knowledge so that everyone could win - especially in places like his community.
“What is a mistake without a lesson? See, the best teacher in life is your own experience. None of us know who we are until we fail. They say every man is defined by his reaction to any given situation. Who would you want to define you - someone else or yourself? Whatever you do, give your heart to it. And stay strong.” -Nipsey Hussle
More wisdom and insight. It’s hard for anyone to watch an interview, hear him speak, or listen to his lyrics and dislike this man. You don’t have to be a super fan of Nipsey Hussle’s music to learn or gain something from him, to see that he was a special man with so much to offer.
This loss is a tough one to swallow. We hope that you remember and hold on to the positive that he had to share, to keep his legacy going and honor his life.
“Spoke some things into the universe and they appeared/ I say it's worth it, I won't say it's fair/ Find your purpose or you wastin' air…” ~Nipsey Hussle
